Sept 15 - Welcome to School

Dear Virtual EAST Families,

I’d like to welcome you and your child(ren) back to school. You are receiving this message because we have your child attending the virtual school for Oakville (East).

We are so incredibly excited to begin our journey with you and your family.

Tomorrow is the first day of Virtual School and by the end of today you should receive information from your child(ren)’s teacher(s) for tomorrow morning. If you have not, please double check your email, and spam folder.

Our team has been working incredibly hard over the last few weeks to get our Virtual School up and running. We built classes trying to keep groups of students together from the same school. If you selected virtual school after Aug 31st, the chances of your child being with another student from the same school is greatly reduced.

Our virtual school has 190 classes (41 FI, 149 English) with close to 5000 students.

We ask that if there was an error in your child(s) class placement (e.g., wrong grade, your child was placed in English but should be in French Immersion, shouldn’t be in virtual school), to please let your child’s teacher know immediately. The teacher is collecting these errors and we will work to correct them asap. All other class change requests (ie. to be with friends) will not be considered at this time.

I have included some important information for your consideration as we prepare for start up.

Absence Reporting - School Messenger

We will continue to use the student absence reporting system called School Messenger - https://go.schoolmessenger.ca/ This system will be used for student absences as well as receiving all messages and phone calls from your child’s school. If you are not already signed up for this, please do this as soon as possible. You can also download the app if this is of interest to you.

First Day Procedures

The first day of school is Wednesday, September 16, 2020. A teacher will virtually greet the class at 8:45am using the link that was provided to you. The teacher will share their specific class schedule with you.

8:45am - 9:45am

Period 2

9:45am - 10:25am

Break

10:25am - 11:05am

Period 3

11:05am - 11:55am

Period 4

11:55am - 12:45pm

Lunch

12:45pm - 1:25pm

Period 5

1:25pm - 2:05pm

Period 6

2:05pm - 3:05pm

Start-Up Packages

Unlike previous years, start-up packages will be distributed electronically over the coming days. Please stay tuned for more information to come.
